Approach

Noctranet works from general systems engineering. We treat a technology problem as a system — its parts, the relationships between them, and the intent the whole is meant to serve. Managing technology means managing that whole.

We start with intent. We make it explicit, identify where technology can create leverage against it, and then work deliberately with the actual constraints — regulatory, operational, commercial, etc. Constraints are either movable or immovable; and movable constraints most often present the best opportunities for leverage. The work is to identify, alleviate or exploit them to achieve the stated objectives.

Intent drives the entire process, informing decisions within the actual constraints, which in turn drives the design and specification of what is implemented to ultimately deliver the solution. Feedback fills any discovered gaps and checks it against the rung above when it cannot be answered directly and only goes up to the point where the answer is forthcoming. This ensures that any changes or shifts in the environment, and particularly constraints, are observed and adjusted for to deliver a solution that fits.

An engagement produces two things. The first is the solution. The second, and the more durable, is the approach itself — structured intent, clear communication, and systems thinking that stay with you after we leave. The aim is to leave you more capable and more self-sufficient than before — able to run what we build on your own. Where common needs are well met by open platforms, we build on them; where your situation is genuinely particular, we develop the bespoke solution to fit.
